Blow the whistle on crime – Ivory Park SAPS
The purpose of the awareness project was to teach the Ivory Park community to blow the whistle on crime whenever they are confronted by criminals.
The Ivory Park SAPS Youth Crime Prevention Desk and Community Patrollers took its crime awareness campaign to Ivory Park, Extension 7, on September 25.
The Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Meldah Sekgobela, said the purpose of the awareness project was to teach the Ivory Park community to blow the whistle on crime whenever they are confronted by criminals.
“It was also to encourage neighbours to look out for each other and to phone the police when someone nearby is screaming for help. Last month the campaign was at Ivory Park Extension 2, Kaalfontein and Ebony Park,” she said.
W/O Sekgobela said, “Hundreds of whistles were distributed to the residents of Ivory Park Extension 7. This will have an impact if it is used effectively, as most of the residents are terrorised by criminals who are committing robberies.”
Police emergency numbers and sector vehicle numbers were also distributed to residents on the day.
