Two women burn dead dog in Croydon veld
By Wednesday, the dog had still not been removed
THE remains of a dead dog that was set alight in an open veld in Croydon on Friday afternoon last week were still lying in the veld on yesterday.
Two women were spotted by a resident setting a black plastic bag on fire and leaving it in the veld on Grysbok Road.
Croydon CPF chairman, Martin Scott, said the incident took place at about 4.15pm and the forum received a complaint from resident Andrea Donohoe regarding the incident.

“At around 4pm, Donohoe spotted two women on Grysbok Road, carrying a large black bin bag and starting a fire on the pavement at the park,” he explained.
Donohoe and CPF member Rocky Thomas went to put out the fire before it spread too far, using a hosepipe and buckets of water to extinguish the blaze.
“When they went to investigate what was inside the smouldering bag, they found a small dog that we suspect was already dead before being set alight,” Scott said.
Unfortunately the resident wasn’t able to identify from which house the women had come, but said they both were wearing what looked like tracksuit pants. One of them had a towel or blanket around her waist, hanging down to her knees, and the other had her hair up.
Another resident who alerted EXPRESS said they had tried to get through to the waste management department since Friday but were unsuccessful. They eventually managed to contact someone on Wednesday afternoon.
