ONLY a week after the Chloorkop reservoir had been overflowing for hours, the same problem occurred again on Tuesday afternoon, with hundred thousands litres of water running away in streets in the suburbs.
What makes it worse this time is that the water now finds it way down three streets instead of only one.
On October 18 resident Madelyn Smith informed EXPRESS about the problem, looking for help. However, not much was forthcoming. Although it went well for a week, the “flood” was back with a vengeance on Tuesday.
The latest flood:
Express also immediately notified the metro, asking for reasons why this problem could not be fixed permanently. We are still waiting for a reply. The only response we got was a reply to our tweet.

In a video taken yesterday, Smith explained that the water was now running down not only Faraday Street but also into Dunlop Street, Gamma Avenue and Watt Street.
“For a week we didn’t have any sign of water running out of the reservoir, until we got home yesterday afternoon and streets were flooded again with water running for hours. We don’t know what to do anymore, the municipality is not responding to any of our requests and this is a huge problem,” said Smith.
According to Smith there is now a guard at the reservoir and upon asking him why the water was running out of the reservoir, he replied that a mechanism in the tank had broken and but there was nothing he could do about it.
