Ekurhuleni North SAPS is investigating a case of house robbery in Ivory Park’s Lindokuhle Section after one of the tenants was robbed immediately after arriving home from withdrawing money from a bank in Midrand.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communication officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the 40-year-old victim went to a bank, where he withdrew R13 000 ahead of his trip to Zimbabwe.
“Two armed men arrived shortly after his arrival home and immediately demanded the money that the victim withdrew. They searched the victim and took all of the money and cellular phones belonging to him and his wife, and left the scene as quickly as they had arrived,” said Capt Matimulane.
Matimulane added the police believe the suspects were well aware that the victim had withdrawn a large amount of cash, as they specifically demanded the money.
“At the time of the robbery, a silver BMW was seen waiting outside. It then sped away with the suspects,” added Capt Matimulane.
Ivory Park SAPS thanked those who took time to memorise the registration numbers and description of the vehicle, and are determined to follow up on the information.
At the same time the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, appealed to people to refrain from carrying large amounts of money on their persons.
He also said that if circumstances dictate that one has to withdraw a large amount of money, one must be aware of one’s surroundings and look out for any sign of being followed.
“If anyone gets a hint or suspicion that they are being followed, the best thing to do is to call the police, or go to the nearest police station, whichever is more convenient,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
