Kaalfontein woman shot

Ivory Park SAPS, communication officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, police have opened a case of attempted murder and are on the hunt for the woman's boyfriend who was heard by the victim opening the door and firing two shots.

A 32-year-old woman from Kaalfontein, near Midrand, has been shot in the head in what appears to have been a domestic violence incident.

Ivory Park SAPS communication officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, said police have opened a case of attempted murder and are on the hunt for the woman’s boyfriend, who was allegedly heard by the victim opening the door and firing two shots.

“The victim suffered bullet wounds to her head and right hand and was quickly rushed to hospital for treatment,” said Matimulane.

The incident happened shortly after midnight on Monday last week.

“It is not yet clear what triggered the shooting or whether the victim and the perpetrator had an argument or not. Police are busy with investigations,” said Capt Matimulane.

Ivory Park SAPS urged the community to look out for the tell-tale signs of abusive partners.

“Most start slowly before they start to physically abuse their victims, and in some cases, kill them. Some of these signs are controlling behaviour, the use of economic power to exert control over their victims and isolate victims from their loved ones,” said Matimulane.

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, urged people finding themselves in abusive relationships to look for help as soon as signs begin to emerge that their partners have violent tendencies – as failure to do so may cost them their lives.
