Tembisa Hospital manager abused cellphone to support ANC

Manager Lina Mmatli posted an ANC message on an internal management Whatsapp group on July 29 last year during elections campaign.

TEMBISA Hospital manager Lina Mmatli was disciplined for abusing her work cellphone after posting a pro-ANC message to an internal management Whatsapp group on July 29 in 2016, during municipal election campaigns.

Gauteng DA Shadow Health MEC Jack Bloom said he raised a complaint to the Public Service Commission (PSC), where Mmatli’s conduct was found to be inappropriate and in contravention of regulations and policies that prohibit public servants from acting in such a manner.

“The PSC recommended that the head of the Gauteng Head Department should consider corrective measures against Mmatli in this regard.

“In a written reply to my questions on this matter, Gauteng Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa said that Ms Mmatli had been charged with misconduct arising from abuse of state resources and her disciplinary hearing was finalised on March 17.

“She also said that there was continuous training of employees on the code of conduct in the public service. I commend the PSC for taking up my complaint and compelling the department to enforce the important principle that public servants should not promote any political party in the course of their duties,” said Bloom.

The Kempton EXPRESS contacted Tembisa Hospital communications officer Nothando Mdluli, who consulted the hospital CEO and later replied that they had agreed not to comment on the matter.
