Dutch national arrested after 40kg khat seizure at OR Tambo
The suspect was intercepted while reportedly en route to Frankfurt, Germany. Police seized khat with an estimated street value of R240 000.
Police have arrested a Dutch national at O. R. Tambo International Airport after allegedly discovering more than 40kg of khat concealed in his luggage during an intelligence-driven operation this week.
According to SAPS spokesperson Lt Col Amanda van Wyk, the suspect was intercepted while reportedly en route to Frankfurt, Germany.

“The South African Police Service has arrested another drug mule at the OR Tambo International Airport following an intelligence-driven operation conducted this week,” said Van Wyk.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on May 25 on charges related to drug trafficking.
Van Wyk said SAPS continues to intensify efforts to combat transnational organised crime and drug trafficking through intelligence-led operations at ports of entry across the country.
She added that over the past two years, SAPS has intercepted and arrested more than 50 drug mules at OR Tambo International Airport.
