THE victim of a crime that captured the attention of many people when two men on a motorbike hijacked his motorbike in Birchleigh last week, told EXPRESS how he was followed from Glen Marais before the botched robbery at his home.
“I saw the two men at a petrol garage near Laerskool Kruinsig in Glen Marais but I was not really concerned about them. I did not even notice what they were doing there but they followed me home on their motorcycle. As I opened the gate, they approached me and one of them jumped me with a firearm. I started running towards the house and he fired a shot.

“Those men wanted to kill me and take my motorbike. I don’t think they just wanted to scare me,” said the victim who asked not to be named.
Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Capt Lesibana Molokomme confirmed the arrest of one of the suspects who failed to flee from the crime scene on Monday last week at around 6.30pm.
The suspect was nabbed when he encountered problems with his motorbike after his partner had taken flight on the victim’s motorbike.
A witness, who also rides a motorcycle and also asked not to be named, said, “The suspect found himself stranded. He dumped his motorbike and tried to make a run but at that time numerous neighbours were already outside after hearing the shot.
“He fired another shot in the direction of the gathering crowd. We chased him and he ran towards one of the houses where he climbed on top of the roof but fell.”

According to the victim, both suspects were armed.
“I could say they probably targeted me because I was riding a motorbike but that will not make me fear riding a motorbike again, even if I will always look over my shoulder,” he said.
“The neighbours and a couple of neighbourhood watch members arrested the suspect. My motorbike is still missing. It is a blue Honda motorbike, registration BY 17 FJ GP,” he said.
The suspect appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges of hijacking, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
