Copper cable thief sentenced to R10 000 or four years in jail

Mndeni Sithole (46) was arrested in November last year after police found him in possession of copper cables

A court has ordered a copper cable thief to either pay R10 000 or spend the next four years in jail.

A further four years imprisonment had been suspended for five years.

Mndeni Sithole (46) was sentenced in Kempton Magistrate’s Court on May 26.

He was arrested in November last year after Kempton Park’s patrolling officers found him in possession of copper cables near Kempton Park Railway Station.

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Police Station, Sithole was found guilty of theft.

“The trial had been postponed several times in order for the investigating officer, D/Const Wildman Choshi, to complete his investigations which resulted in the conviction of the accused,” Mtshali said.

The branch commander of Kempton Park, D/Col Lesetja Manewa, congratulated the investigating officer for ensuring that another criminal had been caught.
