Rabie Ridge victim empowerment centre revived
If you are abused, assaulted, raped or harassed, know that Rabie Ridge has a solution for you

The victim empowerment centre at Rabie Ridge Police Station has been revived, with a new victim empowerment coordinator, a new victim support volunteer, and a new victim-friendly room to help ease the suffering of those who have experienced violence or abuse.
Victim empowerment centres are made available at police stations by the government working in partnership with communities and NGOs to address crimes against women and children.
The aim of the centres is to help ameliorate the trauma experienced by victims of rape, domestic violence, sexual abuse, substance abuse, assault, harassment and bullying.
At Rabie Ridge, newly appointed victim empowerment coordinator Const Leso Mawela will be working with dedicated victim empowerment volunteer Allies Kotlolo.
Both Mawela and Kotlolo will liaise with the local Community Policing Forum (CPF) and its long-time volunteer coordinator, Mavis Moroaswi.
Various stakeholders are part of the overall victim empowerment programme. These include the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the departments of Social Development, Health and Community Safety, and the SAPS family violence, sexual offences and child protection units.
The victim empowerment centre at Rabie Ridge will serve as a point of support and referral to the above stakeholders, as well as various NGOs dealing with abuse.
“If you are abused, assaulted, raped or harassed, know that Rabie Ridge has a solution for you,” said Rabie Ridge SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mofana Matsobane Masela.
“As a station we have a lot of missing persons being reported,” Masela added. “We appeal to communities to take care of their children, more especially girls who are given false promises.”
