Tembisa lads off to outreach conference in America

'We have made a tremendous contribution to their programmes during our visit last year and they saw a need to invite us again as guest speakers.'

The American Church of God in Christ: World Mission (COGIC) has once again selected local lads Vuyolethu Sibiya and Mduduzi Mtakazi to be the main guest speakers in their upcoming Awakening Community Outreach Programme and Conference from August 27 until September 1.

Community builder Sibiya, who is the founder of Kuzondlula Motivational Tour (KMT) based in Ivory Park’s Extension Two in partnership with Mtakazi, have been involved in numerous community projects. They have visited schools to provide needy learners with clothes, offered motivational talks and campaigned against drugs and substance abuse among others. KMT has been invited by the COGIC, which is under the leadership of Bishop Charles Blake who was the religious advisory of the former US president Barack Obama, to participate in the programme in the following cities: Detroit, Chicago, Memphis, Grand Rapids and Texas.

“You have made a significant impact, particularly on young adults in and around Detroit. Our team was very impressed with your interpersonal character, social intelligence and your capacity to drive social transformation,” said Bishop Vincent Mathews, leader of COGIC: World Mission.

“We have made a tremendous contribution to their programmes during our visit last year and they saw a need to invite us again as guest speakers.

“If there is one thing we have learned from our trip last year is independence and sustainability. Thus, we have strategised and sought ways to sustain our programmes and make sure we have multiple ways to finance our programmes,” said Sibiya.

Sibiya added after they received the invitation, they proposed to COGIC to offer them a platform to raise funds in order to sustain and expand their programmes to which they agreed.

“COGIC gathers a number of esteemed business people and philanthropist who can participate financially towards us. So, the purpose of this is to take part in the COGIC programmes and raise funds for the KMT programmes. It will be a one month visit: two weeks for fund-raising and two weeks for participation,” said Sibiya.

KMT is kindly seeking for contributions towards their flight tickets, which amounts to R20 000 per person.

“We are appealing to local business people or any good Samaritan to help sponsor our flight tickets. We would really appreciate your contribution as it will make our visit a success,” said Sibiya.
