Ekurhuleni North chess players need funds for international tours
Ekurhuleni North Schools Chess will do coaching and tournaments at any business free of charge as long as they donate towards the players.
South African top-rated chess player, international master Daniel Cawdery, played in a simultaneous match at Mooifontein Primary School on June 30 to help raise funds for Ekurhuleni North players.
These players have been chosen to represent South Africa in either the Africa Youth Chess Championship or World Cadets. If they cannot play, they will not receive their national colours.
Four of the six players could not play in the Common Wealth Games in India due to a lack of finances. The other four hope to play in the Africa Youth Championship later this year in Kenya but need funding.
Daniel won all his games. The questions he answered afterwards will help many of the players to become better players.
In the blitz tournament afterwards, Daniel won the A section with six out of seven with Fanie Vorster and Michael Kushar joint second.
Almero du Pisanie, chairperson of Ekurhuleni North Schools chess, says they will do coaching and tournaments at any business free of charge as long as they donate any amount for the players to take part internationally.
