Santa Shoebox continues its ‘March to One Million’ boxes

The initiative has grown from a humble beginning of 180 shoeboxes in 2006 to 762 594 shoeboxes in 2017.

One of South Africa’s best-loved children’s charities, the Santa Shoebox Project, has launched its drive for this year.

The project is built around an annual drive that collects and distributes gifts to underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia during the Christmas season, with a bold goal of reaching one million children by 2019.

This year, Stor-Age have committed to its seventh consecutive year of the Santa Shoebox Project partnership.

Stor-Age will work closely with the project to help them achieve their goal, but the key to success is public participation. Pledging for the Santa Shoebox Project opened on August 1 and everyone is encouraged to help bring joy to a child this festive season.

To assist the process of donating, Stor-Age is giving away 13 000 shoeboxes at their stores nationwide for the public to pick up and fill with recommended gifts. Stor-Age is offering up to four boxes a person, after which the boxes are sold at R5 a box.

Simply arrive at one of their stores and request a box. You can drop off your completed box at your nearest Stor-Age store once you have filled it with the recommended gifts.

The initiative has grown from a humble beginning of 180 shoeboxes in 2006 to 762 594 shoeboxes in 2017. In addition to public generosity, the success of the Santa Shoebox Project is largely dependent on an extensive network of volunteers.

For a couple of hours a week, you can also volunteer and become part of a team that brings smiles to thousands of children every year. For more information and to get involved, visit the Santa Shoebox website.
