Gauteng Traffic Police arrest speedster doing 190km/h on R21

He was formally charged for reckless driving with an alternative charge of exceeding the speed limit

The Gauteng Traffic Police High Speed Unit on Wednesday arrested a 31-year-old man for speeding on the R21 near Olifantsfontein.

The man, who was driving an Audi A3, was driving at an average speed of 190km/h in a prescribed maximum limit of 120km/h. The man claimed he was rushing to a business meeting.He was formally charged for reckless driving with an alternative charge of exceeding the speed limit. He was released on bail of R1 500 and will appear in Kempton Park Magistrate’s court today (August 23).

“I am concerned about the number of reckless and negligent driving incidents we continue to experience on our roads. Statistics indicate that the highest number of fatalities are due to excessive speeding by motorists,” said MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane.

“Our law enforcement agencies will continue to deal decisively with anyone who does not adhere to the rules of the road.”
