Teams fixing the more than a week-old water leak at the intersection of Gladiator and Albatross streets in Rhodesfield discovered not only one but three leaks when they opened up the road last night.

According to ward councillor Jaco Terblanche, the team worked right through the night and only managed to repair one of the leaks.

“I cannot see that they will manage to fix the other two by noon as announced earlier this morning,” Terblanche said.

He estimates the earliest water will be back on is at 3pm today (Thursday).

When Express arrived on the scene at around 8.15am this morning, deep pools of water covered the lower part of Gladiator Street.

A row of bricks was placed last week to allow people to cross over without getting wet. This path is now almost completely covered with water, leaving pedestrians no choice but to walk through the pools.

Multiple burst pipes have left Gladiator Street in Rhodesfield covered in water. Cars and pedestrians have no choice but to move through the pools of water.

Although cars were moving slowly through the intersection, traffic was flowing.

Terblanche said he would re-evaluate the situation around 1pm and then give a further update.

The areas left without water are Kempton Park CBD, Glen Marais, Aston Manor, Allen Grove and Bredell.

Water tankers will be dispatched.
