Get your new Sassa card before September 20

Documents required to do a card swap are the old Sassa card and the beneficiary’s green barcoded ID Book or smart card ID.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is in the process of phasing out Cash Pay Master Services (CPS) and phasing in the South African Post Office (SAPO) for the payment of social grants as of October 1.

The process started in May whereby the old Sassa card is being swapped with the new gold card.

Beneficiaries are requested to switch to the new gold Sassa card or choose to receive their grants through a bank of their choice. Card swaps are conducted at Sassa offices, cash pay points, post office outlets and community venues identified by both Sassa and SAPO.

Sassa will continue to pay social grants at certain identified pay points that are far from merchants and banks on the normal payment circle which is from the first until the 20th of every month.

Beneficiaries who swap their old cards before the cut-off date, which is September 20, will receive their grants on October 1 on the new gold card.

The new gold card comes with benefits which include accessing money at any time at merchants, the post office, ATMs using a pin, unlimited PIN resets at Sassa local offices, one pin reset at SAPO outlet per annum and one funeral deduction which is not more than 10 per cent of the grant (not applicable to child support grant).

Documents required to do a card swap are the old Sassa card and the beneficiary’s green barcoded ID Book or smart card ID.
