WATCH: Water nightmare on Isando Road as hole stays open
Thousands of litres of water is being lost on a daily basis because of this burst pipe
A water leak on Isando Road, which has still not been fixed, has resulted in a huge “dam” in front of a tyre business.
According to Mikhail Maharaj, the leak started at the beginning of August, when he noticed the tar road was lifting. A few days later there was water coming from underneath the tar.
He said the metro detected it was a burst pipe and dug a hole, which resulted in a section of Isando Road being closed.

“People driving trucks now use the side road provided to us businesses to work on and this leaves us with no space to work,” he added.
The water leakage caused big potholes at the Foundry Street and Isando Road intersection and is making it difficult for people to drive. Employees from businesses in the surrounding area tried to make the potholes smaller by putting bricks in them.
“Traffic in the morning and evening has become a nightmare,” Maharaj continued.
Maharaj took a video of contractors with a front-end loader trying to clear the hole, which did not work. Whatever was scooped up from the hole was just dumped next to it, including the water.
According to Maharaj, there have been road closures on Isando Road between Lathe and Foundry streets. First, yellow plastic barriers were used but these were removed by impatient motorists who continued to drive around the hole.
Currently there are concrete barriers closing the road.
Express is waiting for comment from the municipality.
