Glen Marikana eviction case back in court today
The MEC for housing indicated at the time the metro would abide by the court’s decision and would not oppose the eviction
Residents of Glen Marikana, waving EFF flags, were seen gathering outside the informal settlement on Fried Road on Monday morning, apparently on their way to the Johannesburg High Court.
The case to grant an eviction order will continue this morning.
The casie was moved to the opposed roll in May before being postponed.
During the previous sitting, the metro has not finalised its report for additional housing and the court gave them 45 days to complete this report. It is expected this report will be brought to court this morning.
The court will not issue an eviction order until this report has been compiled which addresses the question of availability of temporary land or accommodation whereto the Glen Marikana residents can be moved.

In May, the court also ordered that the occupants needed to supply their names and circumstances that indicated the urgent need for alternative accommodation.
