Wounded MML reaction officer kept in induced coma

His family thanks everybody for their support during the past few days

MML reaction officer Rudi Botes (38) is still in an induced coma in hospital after being shot in the head in Chloorkop on Tuesday evening.

The Cresslawn father of two is expected to be kept in the induced coma until Monday, said Lexi Botes, his sister-in-law, on Thursday morning.

Rudi had undergone surgery to relief pressure on his brain and his vital signs are good.

“He moves and wakes up at times, calling for his brother Loffie. Under the circumstances, he is doing well,” she said.

His family thanks everybody for their support during the past few days, including his employer. MML Security.

Rudi was wounded while responding to an alarm at a company in Chloorkop.

Sebenza SAPS are investigating an attempted murder case.

“It is believed Botes was shot by suspects travelling in a white VW Golf GTI,” said Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso, spokesperson for Sebenza SAPS.

“Botes and his colleague were responding to a panic button at the business premises when they came across the suspects who were exiting the property. The suspects started shooting and the officers returned fire.”

Tsotsotso said the other officer was unharmed and the number of suspects was unknown.
