#IMadeMyMark: Boeries unite voters on Fiskaal Street (video)

Food always seems to unite South Africans, as a resident in ANC regalia could be seen chatting to a voter with a DA hat over a cup of coffee in the voting queue.

While many Kempton Park residents arrived early at voting stations on Wednesday morning to cast their votes in the national and provincial elections, four entrepreneurs set up a stall on Fiskaal Street at 6am to provide the waiting voters with boerewors rolls and coffee.

“We voted here in the previous election and the queue was just as long,” remembered Cobus van Staden (41) from Glen Marais. “So this year, we decided to do this,” he said, pointing at the white stall.

Helping him braai was Van Riebeeck Park resident Johan van Wyk (45), while his wife Evelyn (50) and friend Gereldene Kotzé (44) sold coffee.

The four vendors plan to spend the entire day at their post and cast their votes this evening. “We’ll be those late voters,” Johan laughed.

Although residents will cast different votes for different parties on Election Day, food always seems to unite South Africans, as a resident in ANC regalia chatted to a voter with a DA hat over a cup of coffee in the voting queue.
