Tembisa Arts Festival to put local talent in the spotlight

The auditions showed us that we do have great talent in Tembisa

Thuthuka youth club will host a Tembisa Arts Festival on June 13 that will give the youth an opportunity to showcase their talents.

Lerato Maleka said the aim of the festival is to teach the new generation about the history of June 1976.

“On April 30 we had auditions for groups that will take part.

“The auditions showed us that we do have great talent in Tembisa when it comes to acting, dance, music and poetry,” said Maleka.

She said artists in Tembisa struggle to find the right channels to promote their art and secure assistance from the government or the private sector.

“We are pleading with government to be more involved in honing this talent.

“City of Ekurhuleni must give artists proper venues, such as a fully equipped theatre, to stage their stories,” said the actress.

Interested drama societies can contact Thuthuka youth club on 084 809 7051 for details and further auditions.
