Young girls visit children’s home to donate clothes

The organisation aims to encourage young girls to live within the parameters of Christianity and according to their motto #GirlsWithPurpose

Teenage Etiquette, a non-profit organisation, visited the New Jerusalem Children’s Home in Midrand on May 4 to donate clothes and help them clean the home .

The organisation aims to encourage young girls to live within the parameters of Christianity and according to their motto #GirlsWithPurpose. To further their motto, they visited the New Jerusalem Children’s Home, where they played with the children, had lunch and later handed over clothes.

Khongelani Mbatha, chairperson of Teenage Etiquette, said that it was a very educational visit as she learnt how to connect with people in homes. It was her first time being in that environment.

“One great thing I learnt, is that blood does not make us family, but the bonds shared are what make us family. The people in the home are from different races, but they live and love each other as family,” said Mbatha.

“As Christians, we have the love of God in its fullness and as a Christian organisation, we wanted to show love to the less privileged. When we were doing our year plan, we thought that Teenage Etiquette should not only focus on churches, but should also reach out to the community.”

Zanele Ngobeni, founder of Teenage Etiquette, said during school holidays they will visit the home again as they were not happy with the amount of time they spent there.

“Our aim was to go there and help with any house chores they had, be it cleaning, washing or anything else, and to play with the children, but most importantly to share the word of God and pray. Also to bless the home with the donations we had,” said Ngobeni.

“As Teenage Etiquette, we just want to give back to the community,” said Ngobeni.
