‘Jumping’ queues: tough if you don’t like it

Ricky Jordaan wrote to you complaining that the elderly and infirm were “jumping the voting queues” on May 8.

He/she stated that pensioners and disabled people had two days before the eighth to cast their special votes.

Yes, this is true, for those people who lived in retirement villages that is, but remember, there are many pensioners who live in private homes with their families, or even on their own and thus are obliged to vote on the designated voting day.

RJ stated he/she was really “peed off”. Why? There were plenty of toilets available!

What kind of a person would stand by and watch an 80- to 90-year-old being forced to stand in a long queue, especially during the winter months? We elderly have been privileged to move to the front of the voting queue for many years, and this is the first time someone has literally thrown their toys out of the cot because of it.

So I say, if you do not like it, tough. Nothing will change, long may it continue.
