Financial mistakes forced Tsumbi back to using taxis
Woman helps Tembisa residents to understand debt.
A number of people in the township have become unemployed as a result of personal financial health. When employees are facing debt in their lives that stress affects their productivity at work which eventually lead to getting fired.
Tsumbedzo “Tsumbi” Matshatshe saw a need to assist Tembisa residents in understanding their finances and gives them strategic guidance to get out of debt.
Tsumbi established a company called Divine Nuggets (PTY) Ltd that hosts talks on financial challenges faced by employed people eKasi.
“The purpose is to help people realise their own purpose. I realised that many people live beyond their means, they are not living for themselves. People want gratification and they want it now at whatever cost,” said Matshatshe.
She said people acquire luxury cars on credit and yet they do not even have personal savings accounts.
“That affects your future because you don’t know what tomorrow brings. My company was born out of realising that common is not necessarily common to everyone,” said Matshatshe.
Tsumbi holds a BA degree in Social Sciences from the University of Durban Westville. She also has a diploma in Human Resource Management form the University of Johannesburg.
Matshatshe’s first job was at a financial firm where she worked as a financial adviser. She said after that she joined the banking industry.
“In 2001 I moved to a petroleum industry as a training consultant. In 2004 I decided to venture on my own which gave me a lot of independence that came with a lot of money. I was now consulting privately in my own business,” said Matshatshe.
With the abundance of money in her life Tsumbi made her own financial mistakes in her decision making.
“I got myself two houses and an expensive car and that made me feel good. But it was just satisfying my ego. In 2010 I lost my second house and the car,” said Matshatshe.
She got blacklisted and that knocked her self-worth and she had to go back to using taxis. Matshatshe said during that time she discovered who she was and what her purpose is.
Tsumbi was fortunate to have knowledge and understanding of finances because she used her knowledge to get back on her feet.
Using her own experiences and her background in finance consulting, Matshatshe now wants to help Tembisa residents to rid themselves of debt and gain in-depth financial understanding.
