Miss Earth SA semi-finalist preaches environment gospel in Phomolong

This school pledged to always keep their environment clean.

Miss Earth South Africa semi-finalist Nombulelo Khumalo took her environmental awareness campaign to the little learners of Phomolong Primary School.

During her visit to the school, Khumalo taught the learners about the importance of keeping their environment clean, arguing that such a habit only yields healthier results to both the body and mind.

“The reason why I chose a primary school for such an important campaign was to simply teach these learners at an early stage of their lives about the importance of keeping their spaces clean at all times.

“It is easier to teach children new habits at foundation level because they are likely to grasp them by heart and eventually grow up doing what they were taught when they were still little,” explained Khumalo.

The Miss Earth SA pageant aims to empower young South African women with the knowledge and platform to create awareness of the environment, wildlife and the conservation of the country’s natural legacy, and ultimately the preservation of Mother Earth.

And in playing her part, Khumalo reprimanded the learners for littering and dumping waste, especially in streams and rivers.

This school pledged to always keep their environment clean.

“This initiative means a lot to us as a school because it teaches our learners how to keep the environment clean, while at the same time promoting their health and hygiene standards.

“It also makes us a health conscious school, therefore, we would like to commit ourselves to always keeping our environment clean,” commented the school’s principal, Seabapong Sepeng.
