The Gauteng Liquor Board has appealed to all liquor traders to always abide by the rules and conditions as prescribed in their liquor licences and permits.
Addressing local liquor traders, at the Rabasotho police station in Tembisa, the liquor board’s education and awareness practitioner, Aaron Masina warned that failure to follow, and trade within the confines of the laws, would result in the police and the board closing down non-complaint liquor outlets.
“First of all, it is vitally important for liquor traders to understand the type of liquor licence they want to apply for, because there are
many different types of licences and permits,” cautioned Masina.
He continued: “Once you have been granted a trading licence, it is significant that you stick to the rules and conditions thereof. These licences are renewable once a year and should you miss a deadline to renew, licence holders or traders will be charged a 50 per cent (R2 500) penalty fee. Please note that failure to renew a licence within specified period will result in outlets being closed down.”
Masina emphasised the need to conduct regular awareness sessions with liquor traders to arm them with vital information to be able to trade with ease and within the ambit of the law.
