Man (73) escapes serious injury swerving to avoid gas bottle on M2

A 73-year-old man was lucky to escape with only minor injuries when he crashed into the barriers on the M2 in Germiston after swerving to avoid a gas bottle on the road.

Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911 said the accident happened shortly before 11pm on Sunday night.

“Reports from the scene indicated the driver lost control of his vehicle when he tried to avoid a gas bottle in his lane. In the process, the car crashed into the barrier and rolled,” he said.

After being treated on the scene, the man was transported to hospital.
