Talent showcase event hosted in Ivory Park

Among the artists who performed were Queen BK DE Poet, Jay De Poet, Sammiie T and Maphutha Dichaba.

Tembisa poets hosted the first annual Word of Youth talent showcase at Ivory Park Community North Hall on June 21.

Various musicians, dancers and poets from all over Ivory Park and Tembisa were invited to showcase their talents.

Among the artists who performed were Queen BK DE Poet, Jay De Poet, Sammiie T and Maphutha Dichaba.

Regina Maphosa, event organiser, said this event was to raise up artists from Ivory Park and surrounding areas and build their confidence.

“I wanted the youth to attend in large numbers, expecting to see confidence in them, and build a fan base for themselves,” said Maphosa.

“My hopes for the next event is to make sure everyone is satisfied and happy with the show and that all the artists are accommodated accordingly, with prizes to be won.”

Yongeza ‘Machiya’ Mdudi, a poet, one of the artists, has entered the South African Poetry Awards.

“On June 1, I received a call stating I am nominated to go to the next phase of the competition and voting lines are now open,” said Machiya.

“I would like people to vote for me. I have won poetry titles at school and college, and I do poetry in my mother tongue. If you would like to vote for me, please SMS SAPA109 to 43366, SMSes cost R0.50 and people can vote as many times as they can,” added Machiya.
