Public relations manager of the Council for Debt Collectors Lulekwa Mengcane spoke about debt collecting.
The Gauteng Department of Economic Development hosted a youth workshop at Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre, Tembisa, on June 25.
The event was held in partnership with Kago YES HUB, an agricultural empowerment initiative based in Tembisa.
Present were different government stakeholders invited to educate and equip the youth about opportunities made available by the government.
The Gauteng Gambling Board was represented to talk about responsible gambling, and the dangers of reckless gambling.
Kago YES HUB communications Teboho Mokhatle said their learners attended the workshop which proved effective.
“The learners were interested to know how the government planned to create jobs and about bursaries,” said Mokhatle.
Public relations manager of the Council for Debt Collectors Lulekwa Mengcane spoke about debt collecting.
“We do not want dept collectors to harass the debtors or threaten them by overcharging them. We protect them from such harassment.
“All debt collectors have to b registered with us so they can be regulated. Customers have to stand their ground and seek legal advice before signing any contract, or where they feel harassed by debt collectors.
“People should know that there is no one who is supposed to call on you before 6am or after 9pm, also that no one should call you on Sunday and demand payment,” said Mengcane.
Neo Lephalala, a community member, said she learnt a lot from the workshop.
“We were told about different liquor licences, and how to apply for those licences, and that one of the requirements is to own a property,” said Lephalala.
Patience Ranoto, a community member, said the workshop was useful.
“I am not employed and want to get employed and that is why I am registering my CV.
“The CV is uploaded on the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) Professional Job Centre database where anyone can access their registered account for job openings,” said Ranoto.
