The City of Ekurhuleni has yet again extended the deadline for residents to collect their wheelie bins, after which the City will no longer collect waste contained in any container or bin that it has not issued itself.
The metro had previously scheduled the deadline for today (July 1) but has postponed it to August 1.
According to Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the metro, this is a grace period for residents who do not have the City-issued 240-litre wheelie bin.
“The grace period is to ensure that residents who don’t possess the City-compliant bin do so by August 1,” said Gadebe.
“The 240-litre wheelie bins have been distributed to residents and remain available at all the City’s waste management depots and selected Customer Care Centres for residents who have not collected theirs yet.
“The City’s fleet of refuse trucks is fitted with an automated mechanism to pick up the bins and empty the refuse into the compactor.”
Residents who are already using the right bins are urged to continue placing them outside their homes at 7am on the collection days scheduled by the City.
