The residents of Difateng Section in Ward Nine will have to wait a little longer to receive their title deeds.
Responding to the residents’ plea for help, the City of Ekurhuleni said in a statement that the issuing of title deeds is the responsibility of the provincial Department of Human Settlements.
“The city receives title deeds that are ready to be handed over to the beneficiaries,” said the city’s spokesman, Themba Gadebe.
Residents of 27 households in this section claimed to have received their houses in 1995 and upon moving in no title deeds were ever issued for these houses. Before venting their anger on the streets, these residents told the Tembisan that they have knocked on almost every governmental door with no success at all.
“There isn’t a single thing we haven’t tried. We have tried every means possible, but we are still in the same situation without the title deeds,” they said.
Gadebe explained: “The city has not received new title deeds in respect of new settlements in Tembisa from the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements.
“Title deeds are distributed to beneficiaries as and when they are received from the lawyers appointed by the department to handle transfers of properties.”
