Forum hosts its weekly mens’ empowerment meeting

Men from Tembisa hope to change how men are viewed in society.

The Men’s Forum hosted their weekly meeting which was well-attended to discuss issues affecting men in the community. The meeting took place at Endayeni Community Library Hall on June 26.

Bishop Michael Mtshali of Boys and Men in Action Initiative of the Vukukhanye Zion Federation was invited. He addressed the forum on various topics including spirituality and economy, among others.

Mtshali said it was important that men should be leaders in family and society.

“We have to discuss what we have to do as men, including what needs to be done to create jobs for the youth,” said Mtshali.

The coordinator of the forum, Vhangani Makhalimela, who is also chief social worker at Ekhuruleni Municipality, said the organisation is made up of men from different wards.

“We are creating a space for men to dialogue about issues affecting them and to re-establish a positive influence to help to reduce child neglect, abuse, and also to boost the morale of men,”said Makhalimela.

Chairperson of #Umphakathimawuhlanzeke Xolani Xaba said men had embarked on a cleaning campaign in their neighbourhood.

The meetings take place at Endayeni Community Library Hall on Thursdays from 10am.
