Metro police take delivery of new Nyalas
The Nyalas are security vehicles designed for patrol and crowd control management.
Ekurhuleni Metro Police, in its quest to deal with violent public protests in a manner in line with the Constitution of the country, namely in a non-lethal fashion, ordered seven Nyalas via TFM, a company situated in Olifantsfontein.
The Nyala is an agile and highly protected armoured personnel carrier to ensure effective policing for crowd management while ensuring safety of police members in riotous situations.
Thus far, the metro police have taken delivery of five Nyalas, said metro police spokesperson, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

The Nyalas are security vehicles designed for patrol and crowd control management. The vehicles have ballistic armouring as well as ballistic glass for the protection of occupants.
It is also fitted with a hydraulically operated front dozer blade capable of removing objects blockading roads and has roof-mounted cable cutters.
Some of the community safety oversight committee members visited the plant to be taken through the assembly line via which Nyalas are constructed from the outset to a finished product.
