Women to be empowered through new NGO

The Pink Forum aims to empower women by linking them with experts from different industries to impart various skills and knowledge.

Women empowerment is a passion and driving force for Birch Acres resident Mandisa Jiyane.

Jiyane’s passion for women inspired her to establish The Pink Forum, an upliftment initiative for women between the ages of 14 and 25.

The forum was officially launched on June 13 in Norkem Park.

“The purpose of The Pink Forum is to create a platform where women can get together at least twice a month and engage in discussions around the challenges they face and create a support system,” said Jiyane.

The NGO also aims to empower women by linking them with experts from different industries to impart various skills and knowledge. Women are also encouraged to work on their health and personal well-being.

Jiyane said the forum focused on three aspects, Femme, Pink Bag and Edu Pink.

“In Femme, we focus on body consciousness and mental health. We have a couple of programmes to highlight certain things such as sexual health and encourage women to take good care of their bodies inside out,” explained Jiyane.

“Pink Bag is an entrepreneurial hub where financial literacy and management of finances are introduced and encouraged. We encourage our members to further their studies in Edu Pink and we also encourage them to start small businesses.”

The 25-year-old founder said the aim was to have 500 members by December.

“We would like to see more young women take ownership of their lives by focusing and working on themselves regardless of their age, colour, circumstances and where they come from,” said Jiyane.

“We strongly believe we need more women in power, more women making their own money and managing it at a young age, and platforms such as The Pink Forum make all that possible.

The forum has seven committee members and welcomes more women to join.
