Public protector to listen to Tembisa residents’ issues

During the official proceedings, an agreement to engage with the entire community to register their concerns and challenges was reached.

In preparation for the much-anticipated visit of the public protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, different community structures led by the chairperson of the Faith Based Organisation, Bishop Michael Mtshali, took a resolution to engage with the community first and compile one detailed memorandum to hand over to Mkhwebane.

Mkhwebane is scheduled to visit Tembisa on August 21 at the Rabasotho Community Hall, where she is expected to spend the day listening to the community’s pressing issues and challenges.

“We are currently engaging with the public protector’s office as she is preparing to come here and listen to our challenges and problems.

“And as different community organisations, we need this platform to sit down and start engaging with one another to avoid clashing statements on the day of her visit,” said Mtshali.

“We need to go to that meeting with one united voice, representing the needs and views of the entire community,” he continued.

During the official proceedings, an agreement to engage with the entire community to register their concerns and challenges was reached.

“We will therefore issue out forms where community members will be encouraged to register all their problems and after this process, we will then take all these issues and compile one detailed memorandum which will be handed over to the public protector,” explained Mtshali.

He also used this platform to invite all those with pending cases such as domestic violence, abuse and rape to report these to the organisation.

“We will take such cases to the public protector so that they can get proper and speedy attention,” he said.

The next stakeholders meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at the Tembisa South Police Station.
