Three-week water problems in Rhodesfield sorted out

Metro says that actions are in place to prevent this issue from happening again.

The water outage that persisted in Rhodesfield for three weeks last month had been addressed and water had been restored to all residents.

According to metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe, the contractor at the construction site (OR Tambo International Airport) damaged the bulk water line, which supplies water to parts of Rhodesfield, Southern Sun Hotel and part of Kempton Park CBD.

He said the bulk water line had been repaired on June 26 and that actions were in place to prevent this from happening again.

“Any construction work which requires excavation must be conducted accordingly and no contractor will be allowed to work on site in Kempton Park without approved Wayleave which shows the servitudes of water and sanitation services.“Adequate water tankers were placed in the affected areas and supplied water daily. Two Jojo tanks were temporarily placed on Mohawk Street and at the corner of Catalina and Wellington streets.”

A resident, who responded to last week’s article, Wynand Pakker, claimed residents who sought supplies from the tankers provided were forced to get in line behind Premier Hotel staff who allegedly had first dibs on the water relief. Gadebe denied this claim.
