Surprise 60th birthday party hosted for long-time caddie

Motopi said he was grateful to have been working as a caddie for Sidu and was overwhelmed by the surprise.

A Tembisa Golf Club member surprised all when he organised a 60th birthday party for his caddie and now great friend.

Beuke Motopi has been a golf caddie at Kempton Park Country Club for almost all his life.

Since becoming Sipho Sidu’s caddie, the two became such great friends that Sidu saw it fit to host Motopi’s family, close friends, golfers from Tembisa Golf Club and fellow caddies and colleagues of Beuke at his home in Blue Valley Golf Estate in Midrand to say thanks to Motopi.

It was an exciting moment when Motopi arrived at Sidu’s house, not knowing why he was there in the first place, only to be humbled by the guests’ happy birthday chants.

Motopi turned 60 on June 28. When Sidu later became aware of this fact, he decided to host a surprise belated birthday party at his own home on July 5.

Benjy Monyanyedi, secretary of Tembisa Golf Club and the man who introduced Sidu to Motopi when Sidu was looking for a caddie about three years ago, made sure the party took place.

“It was not only humbling, but also encouraging to learn there are still people out there who value other human beings’ services and go out of their way to reciprocate their appreciation,” said Monyanyedi.

Sidu also serves on the executive committee of Tembisa Golf Club, hence chairperson Mohera Boshomane was also in attendance.

Motopi said he was grateful to have been working as a caddie for Sidu and was overwhelmed by the surprise. He was going to cherish the moment for as long as he lived.
