ANC bury brutally murdered member
A case of murder has been opened, but no suspects have been found and no arrests has been made yet.
Scores of African National Congress (ANC) members came out to bury a fellow member who was found brutally murdered on July 6.
Ward 11 ANC branch secretary Oriel Thoabala said on June 25 ANC member Dudu Eunice Mashaka was found dead in her home with stab wounds.
“On June 24, when she came back from a meeting, people attacked and killed her in her house.
A case of murder has been opened, but no suspects have been found and no arrests has been made yet.
“We feel terrible about this incident, but we thank the support given to us by the community. The turnout at the funeral was good, as well as the support we got from our youth league, MK Military veterans and ANC Women’s League. Closure will come when the killer is brought to book,” said Thoabala.
He discouraged the community from making conclusions as to who killed Mashaka.
Deputy chairperson of the ANC Women’s League in Ward 11 Phumzile Ngwenya said the Women’s League is heartbroken about the murder of one of their own.
“I encourage men to join hands in fighting against the murder of women and children. We must not go back and we must fight this until the end,” said Ngwenya.
Convener of the ANC Youth League in Ward 11 Katlego Tsolo said their mandate is to ensure the community is safe at all times.
“This thing of gender-based violence is getting out of hand. Law enforcement agencies and the government must play a key role in ensuring issues of gender-based violence are dealt with,” said Tsolo.
He added that gender-based violence is not only a problem caused by men, but it is a societal issue.
