Classic car lover dies at age of 75

His family would like to thank everyone who supported them throughout his illness.

A long-time resident of Kempton Park, Bill Skillings (75), as he was known to his family and friends, died on June 7.

Skillings, from Glen Marais, moved to Kempton Park when he married his childhood sweetheart. They lived in Kempton Park their whole married life of 54 years.

“His friends and family will remember him for his hours of selfless service to the community,” said his children, Ingrid and JP Skillings.

Bill loved working on classic cars, fixing and tinkering in his garages. He had more than 100 cars in his lifetime and enjoyed sharing his work and passion with others.

“He was a wonderful, caring and quiet husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend,” they said.

His family would like to thank everyone who supported them throughout his illness.

Thank you to Smart Security for the assistance they provided his wife in getting him to the hospital and on her late-night returns home after visiting the hospital; neighbours Wayne, Emmerentia and sons for their kind assistance; Steven for his well wishes; Simon for his loyalty to “dad’s garden”; Maria at Mugg & Bean Woodbridge; and the managers at Woolworths Woodbridge who assisted with food choices while he was on a limited diet; East Rand Funeral Directors and Rev Ruth Armstrong and staff at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Germiston, where the couple was also married.

His wife, children, their spouses and grandchildren thank all who extended their well wishes and assistance after he died.
