‘Sleeping’ man found in his underpants in CBD turns out to be dead

Information on his driver's licence included the name B Zelie

The body of an almost naked man was found on the corner of Oak Avenue and Blockhouse Street in the central business district on Tuesday.

According to Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, the man was first thought to be sleeping.

“Community members who called police to the scene said there was a naked white man sleeping on the street.

“When police arrived, they found the man only had underwear on. They tried to wake him but couldn’t,” said Ditshego.

“Paramedics were called and declared him dead.”

Ditshego said the man didn’t look homeless and his driver’s licence was found next to him.

Information on the licence card includes B Zelie with ID number beginning with 770524*******

“Police need help identifying the body. Anyone with information can contact Det W/O Khomotso Dinyane on 011 393 8600 or 08600 1011,” said Ditshego.
