Police on manhunt for truck driver’s killers

Mhlongo said the five suspects were driving a maroon Renault sedan.

Police are on a manhunt for unknown suspects who shot and killed a man in what is suspected to have been a heist in Rabie Ridge in the western part of Tembisa on Tuesday morning.

Police spokesperson Const Jacob Mhlongo said investigations were still underway, but confirmed that the suspects managed to get away with an undisclosed amount of money.

He said the victim was on his way to stock up liquor, using his truck, when he was ambushed.

“The armed suspects attacked the truck just before the intersection of Modderfontein Road and Freedom Drive in Rabie Ridge, forcing it to stop in the middle of the road. Apparently they asked for money, whereupon the victim said there was none in the truck.

“They shot him twice on the upper body and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash,” explained Mhlongo.

He said the victim, who was travelling with a young boy, was certified dead on the scene of the crime.

It is alleged the suspects might have had information that the victim had cash on him.

Mhlongo said the five suspects were driving a maroon Renault sedan.

“We are not going to speculate and rule anything out as we have just started with our investigations, which we believe would lead us to the suspects,” he said.

“Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of these perpetrators is requested to contact the SAPS crime stop number at 08600 10111 or the Rabie Ridge SAPS on 011 310 0410/20 or 071 675 7400. All information received will be treated with confidentiality,” said Mhlongo.
