WATCH: SPCA and church reach out to informal settlements

The outreach targeted two informal settlements, Max Informal Settlement on Great North Road and the other on Mirabel Street.

Kempton Park SPCA and Christian Family Church held an outreach programme in Pomona in June.

The outreach targeted two informal settlements, Max Informal Settlement on Great North Road and the other on Mirabel Street.

Sterilisation and vaccination of cats and dogs were among the purposes of the outreach.

“We wanted to create relationships and bonds with the residents so they can call should they need help and assistance,” said Kira Sparrow, manager at Kempton Park SPCA.

“We also gave residents vaccination cards, collars, puppy kits, portable water bowls, treats and toys for the cats and dogs.”

The church donated and helped to serve two big pots of warm soup with bread to the residents at the two settlements.

Educational talks and pamphlets from the SPCA were also handed out and children were given treats and toys.

Felicia Mlambo, Empress South Africa 2019 Gauteng semi-finalist, Past Fazel Baatjies and André Campbell from the church were also at the outreach.

Sibongile Dlamini, Monica Chaula, Winnie Mumba (eight months) and Martha Skani were happy with the outreach. Winnie was happy to receive her teddy bear as she cuddled it and didn’t want to let go of it.
