The Tembisa SAPS station commander, Brig Frank Mthombeni, has applauded members of the community for working with the police in the fight against crime in the area.
In the same breath, Mthombeni also saluted the men and women in blue for their dedication and quick response whenever they are called for duty.
Mthombeni was reacting after community members tipped off the police about two suspects who were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Sunday night in Mqantsa Section.
“We would like to encourage our communities to continue to be the eyes and ears of the police.
“Working together, our communities and the police will win the battle against crime and reclaim our streets from criminals,” he commented.

Tembisa police spokesperson Const Patricia Mgijimi said the two suspects in question were arrested by Johannesburg K9 officers, who conducted a crime-prevention routine operation in the township.
“Our officers received a tip-off about suspects in possession of a firearm and swiftly responded.
“They arrived at the given address where they found the two suspects, aged 32 and 36, sleeping in a backyard room. Police asked permission to search the house and a 9mm parabellum firearm with serial numbers filed off, one magazine and 16 live ammunition rounds were found,” explained Mgijimi.
She said the suspects failed to produce a licence for the firearm and they were arrested.
