Police warn non-compliant liquor traders

Operating times tops the list as many outlets fail to close on specified times as outlined in their permits and licences

The Rabie Ridge police have issued a stern warning against non-compliant liquor traders operating within this policing area.

The Rabie Ridge SAPS spokesperson, Const Jacob Nhlongo, said police will revoke or withdraw permits and liquor licences of all non-compliant traders.

“We want to advice all liquor traders to always trade within their permits and licences. We want to remind them to comply with the Liquor Act of the country,” he said.

“Failure to comply will result in the police withdrawing permits and licences and closing down all non-compliant outlets,” he continued.

He further outlined that liquor confiscated during raids is destroyed and not taken by police as per popular belief.

“I want to put it on record that after confiscating liquor from unlicensed and non-compliant liquor outlets, police do not drink or sell that alcohol to other outlets. We are aware that there’s a rumour that police take the alcohol for themselves, but that is not the case. We destroy all seized alcohol and then only sell the empty bottles to compliant liquor traders. The money generated from such activity is given to the finance department,” explained Nhlongo.
