Zimbabweans living in SA all dream of a better Zimbabwe
In his book, Matiki argues that his countrymen live in what he refers to as forced democracy.

The author of the book Dreaming a Golden Zimbabwe, Howard Matiki, says Zimbabweans living in this country all dream of a better Zimbabwe where the rights of others are respected.
Speaking to the Tembisan about his new book, Matiki says the book explores the currently state of affairs in his home country, Zimbabwe, which has forced many to flee and seek greener pastures in South Africa.
“We all dream of a better and brighter Zimbabwe that has equal opportunities for all. We dream of a country that treats its citizens with dignity and respect,” says Matiki.
“It is this reason that compelled me to write this book and highlight some of the major problems and challenges Zimbabweans still face.
“My book is a mirror reflecting the injustice and inhumane conditions Zimbabweans live in. It paints the picture of how bad things are in Zimbabwe, from politics to our economy,” he continues.
In his book, Matiki argues that his countrymen live in what he refers to as forced democracy.
“Many people, especially non-Zimbabweans, think everything is fine in Zimbabwe, but the truth is that things are far from fine.
“People are assaulted and even killed there, and yet no one speaks up.
“I believe that the youth have the power to change things around, but they are not given a platform and opportunities to participate in the country’s politics and economy,” he says.
He argues that the economy can never be revived by the use of a gun, but through peaceful engagements and public participation.
The book also takes a closer look at corruption and how it is further dragging the country and economy down.
Matiki first arrived in South Africa in 2016 and says he has fallen in love with the country and its people.
“This country is different from Zimbabwe. The democracy and human rights here are so pure and real.
“Everyone wants to come here and believe me, we have found a home in SA. This is what also inspired me to write this book,” he concludes.
