Taking home warmth with Antifreeze to keep out the cold
Just over 500 people attended Operation Antifreeze's July soup kitchen.
Operation Antifreeze, a non-profit and upliftment project, fed just over 500 people at its July soup kitchen at Shoprite Checkers on Voortrekker Road on July 3.
Each person received a hot dog, cooldrink, a food parcel and blanket to take home.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to WesBank who donated all of the blankets that were handed out. We are truly grateful for your support,” said project coordinator and fund-raiser Hilary Carhart.
“I would also like to say thank you to all our volunteers for giving up their time to serve at our soup kitchen and to all our donors for helping us fight hunger and feed hope.”
To keep Operation Antifreeze running, they are always in need of all kinds of donations, from food, stationery, clothing and blankets to financial donations to cover operating expenses.
The project assists well over 1 000 people monthly, which includes 520 school children in 11 schools. They rely completely on donations to keep them going.
“We need both the public and the corporate sectors to open their hearts and assist us to fight the plight of poverty in our community,” said Carhart.
Operation Antifreeze will host a 2.5km and 5km fund-raising cross-country fun run/walk on August 17 at Curro Serengeti. It starts at 9am and entries are R50 per person.
The first 100 pre-entries will receive a goodie bag, otherwise you can enter on the day.
