Birch Acres day-care centre hosts pyjama party

The children performed plays about the importance of evening regimes that everyone ought to do before bedtime.

On Friday, Express attended Disney Junior Day Care’s pyjama party on their premises at 4506 Umtholo Street, Birch Acres. From 10am, the children, along with some of their parents, gathered in their pyjamas, night gowns and slippers,

With brightly coloured walls and festive decorations for the party, the children performed plays about the importance of evening regimes that everyone ought to do before bedtime. Two tables were filled with McDonald’s Happy Meals, and a jumping castle was raised outside for the children to play on.

Three sets of plays were performed by three groups, known as the Bunny-class (ages three to four), the Mickey Mouse-class (ages four to five) and the Lion-class (ages five to six).

According to the day care’s principal, Bonakele Chipanga (43), she hosted this pyjama party to raise her community’s awareness of the service she and her staff provide in Birch Acres. Disney Junior Day Care offers carefully planned weekdays for which the children have a strict timetable.

On a normal day, the children arrive from 6am, followed by free play from 7.30am to 8am. Then, from 8.30am, the children sing along with church and inspirational songs. From 9.30am to 10am, the children join in discussions with their teachers and they talk about a different theme each week. From 10am to 10.30am the children receive proper lessons in subjects such as English and mathematics, followed by a reading and writing class until 11am.

The children also enjoy daily storytimes and regular lunch and nap-time breaks during the course of each day.
