Thabang Mabale, the founder of Lij Events Hub and a professional conference organiser, said he has great hopes for the township economy.
“It is not enough to bring entrepreneurs from different sectors to share challenges regarding entrepreneurship and bombard them with big business terms. Township entrepreneurs do not need that, they need creative solutions,” said Mabale.
The Township Outdoor Trade Show 2019 attracted more than 800 registered entrepreneurs as well as other exhibitors.

The event served also to establish a platform for township entrepreneurs to access the market.
While showcasing their businesses in style, entrepreneurs commented on how the event benefited their businesses.
“The experience and outcome of seeing customers and potential clients engaging was so overwhelming, not to forget great networking opportunities for collaborations in the future,” said Ipathia of Ippy’s Delights and Cupcakes.
The event offered great prizes of up to R90 000 to support township entrepreneurs on their business journey. The prizes were sponsored by IROR Group, Silomotion and eKasi Entrepreneurs.
Elvis Sekhaolelo of eKasi Entrepreneurs said: “If you can ask to see a manager in big retail stores to complain, you can also ask to talk to township business owner for service improvement if offered bad service.
“We believe that the beginning of township economic transformation starts with buying local and supporting township businesses.”
