WATCH: Sweet treat from Kempton Express for the elderly

The cakes and milk tarts were donated by Pick n Pay Glen Balad Mall and were served to over 80 residents on Mandela Day

Kempton Express advertising manager Debbie Tiley and advertising consultant, Mariëtte Janse van Rensburg, got their hands sticky and sweet as they served cake and milk tart to the residents of Allen Park Retirement Village.

The cakes and milk tarts were donated by Pick n Pay Glen Balad Mall and were served to over 80 residents for the Mandela Day.

The sweet treat was served with tea which helped keep them warm. When everyone received a slice of the delicious treat some of the residents returned for seconds.

“It was beautiful to see how happy the elderly were to receive their slice of cake or tart. We often take these things for granted but they were truly grateful and it reminded me that we should really appreciate the little we get,” said Janse van Rensburg.

Another special moment was when each resident walked passed Tiley and Janse van Rensburg to express their gratitude through words and hugs.

Tiley said it was also fun spending time with the elderly.

“They are such humble and amazing souls and we were blessed to spend some time with them,” said Tiley.

“They were very excited. It also melted our hearts to see how grateful they were, and it also goes to show how the small efforts go a long way in touching a person’s life.”
