KTVR Bus Service donates to elderly home in Kopanong
"We chose the Zodwa Mofokeng Centre as our way of saying thank you to them for taking care of our elderly," said Modise.
KTVR Bus Service and Transport Planning and Provision department from the City of Ekurhuleni jointly donated food parcels and blankets to the Tembisa Care for the Aged, commonly known as Zodwa Mofokeng Centre for the Aged, in Kopanong Section on July 19.
This organisation was established in 1995 from humble beginnings and now operates two centres close to each other. One centre is a frail care centre for senior citizens who need extra care and attention and the other centre is an active ageing centre for seniors who are still active and can participate in several activities.
The organisation also assists with operations of several satellite centres around the township of Tembisa, taking care of a combined number of 400 senior citizens.
On Friday, KTVR Bus Service, led by its directors, Buti Johannes Mahlangu and Alfred Sithole, who is also the vice-chairperson of the KTVR Board of Directors, were joined by the MMC for Transport Planning and Provision from the City of Ekurhuleni, Clr Pelisa Nkunjana, and donated 105 blankets, groceries, detergents, toiletries and nappies for the elderly.
Entertaining the audience was Tembisa talent Uphenyubeshu, serenading the senior citizens with maskanda music.
Tebogo Modise, marketing and media relations officer of KTVR Bus Service, said through their corporate social investment (CSI) programme they are always looking for charitable initiatives for their contribution towards community development.
“We chose the Zodwa Mofokeng Centre as our way of saying thank you to them for taking care of our elderly,” said Modise.
After all the formalities, the KTVR directors and the MMC joined the senior citizens for lunch and more music. The event was also graced by Midrand Fire Station officials, who created a vegetable garden and planted different types of vegetables to benefit the senior citizens with organic foods.
The centre’s manger, Thandi Swakamisa, said KTVR Bus Service is the only company that has paid them a visit and donated something this year.
“I am also an elderly person, and we are overjoyed to have received this donations from the stakeholders involved in the donations,” said Swakamisa.
